Master's theses with the Jerzy Haber and Andrzej Pomianowski prizes

The Jerzy Haber Institute for Catalysis and Surface Physicochemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences has announced the results of the Andrzej Pomianowski and Jerzy Haber competitions for the best master's theses.

In the seventh edition of the competition named after Jerzy Haber for a master's thesis in chemistry, physics, and at the interface of chemistry and biology, chemistry and physics, or physics and biology concerning catalysis issues, the committee selected three winners. We are pleased to announce that the 2nd place ex aequo was won by two theses completed at the Faculty of Chemistry of the Jagiellonian University. The promoter of both theses was Professor Lucjan Chmielarz of the Department of Chemical Technology.

The winners of the Jerzy Haber Award were Ms. Paulina Michulec, MSc (laboratory supervisor: Aleksandra Gomułka, MSc) for the thesis entitled "Optimization of copper deposition conditions on the surface of MCM-41 and MCM-48 in terms of control of its form and dispersion", and Mr. Mateusz Mendrek, MSc (laboratory supervisor: Aleksandra Jankowska, PhD) for the work "Studies of catalytic stability of transition metal-subsidized mesoporous silicas in the process of selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides with ammonia".

The Andrzej Pomianowski competition awards the best master's theses in the fields of chemistry, physics, and at the interface of chemistry and biology, chemistry and physics, or physics and biology concerning the physicochemistry of surfaces and interfacial phenomena. In the second edition of this competition, among the winners was Mr. Piotr Wieczorek, MSc, who won 3rd place for his master's thesis entitled "Preparation and characterization of copolymer photoactive brushes". The thesis was prepared under the supervision of Professor Szczepan Zapotoczny of the Department of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry.

The diploma and award ceremony took place on December 14, 2023, at the meeting of the Scientific Council of the Jerzy Haber Institute of Catalysis and Surface Physicochemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Congratulations to all the winners!
