PHC Polonium grant for Dr. Katarzyna Majzner

The National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) has announced the completion of the evaluation of applications under the PHC Polonium joint research projects between the Republic of Poland and the French Republic. The program is implemented in Poland by NAWA, and in France by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research. Based on the recommendation of a joint Polish-French commission, the NAWA director decided to fund 20 projects to be implemented between 2024 and 2025. The funds received are intended to cover researchers' travel and residence expenses, excluding funding for the research itself, which must be guaranteed from other sources. Among the scientific endeavors qualified for the program were three projects led by scientists from Jagiellonian University. We are pleased to announce that the winner of the competition is Dr. Katarzyna Majzner from the Raman Imaging Group of the Jagiellonian University's Faculty of Chemistry, who will carry out a project entitled "Raman imaging of drug-stimulated leukemic cells to assess their phenotype and biochemical profile." The project aims to study the effects of selected anticancer drugs on the biochemical profile of acute lymphoblastic leukemia blasts from B-cell progenitors or the corresponding cell line and determine their metabolic effects. The project will be carried out in collaboration with BioSpectroscopie Translationnelle Université Reims Champagne-Ardenne (URCA). The planned work also includes the development of algorithms to improve and partially automate the diagnostic process.

Our sincere congratulations!
