Programme

PhD programme in Chemistry enables gaining a broad knowledge as the basis for future professional careers and competencies necessary for scientific research, as well as the acquisition and development of educational and professional skills. The curriculum primarily consists of scientific research carried out as part of the preparation of a doctoral dissertation, in accordance with an individual research plan prepared by the doctoral student in consultation with the supervisor. Mandatory and optional courses allow individualized and very flexible selection of the education content.

Dedicated mandatory courses in the PhD programme in Chemistry for developing professional skills include:

  • panels - workshop courses (since 2023, PhD student should acquire least 10 ECTS, individual panels are assigned 2 to 4 ECTS)
    • Advanced computational techniques,
    • Advanced structural techniques,
    • Advanced synthetic techniques,
    • Advanced analytical techniques,
    • Advanced spectroscopic techniques,
    • Advanced microscopic techniques,
    • Advanced technology and environmental chemistry,
    • BioPharma Panel,
    • optional course to choose from the offered classes at the Jagiellonian University or another university for min. 2 ECTS, max. 3 ECTS agreed with the scientific supervisor and program manager
  • doctoral seminar (second semester of the second year), including meetings with invited guests (e.g. discipline coordinators from National Science Centre, ERASMUS program coordinators, CITTRU representatives) and presentation of doctoral students' achievements
  • English language course at C1 level (exempted for holders of the appropriate certificate)
  • Educational experience, carried out in the form of participation in teaching or supervising classes

PhD student are obliged to attend a seminar at the Doctoral School, interchangeable with participation in Polish Chemical Society lectures at the Faculty of Chemistry and other seminars offered by Faculty.

Soft skills and general knowledge classes include selected courses (lectures or workshops) to be chosen from a list announced before the beginning of the year. A doctoral student must also participate in a workshop course to enhance their teaching skills.
